There is no shortage of accommodations in the mountain region, and even though only a small percentage of them accept pets, you should have no problem finding a place to stay, whatever type lodging you are seeking. Motels are only found in the various towns, and cabins can be found in all areas outside of the towns. The only bed & breakfast we found that accepted pets was the Royal Windsor in Helen.
The internet has made finding a suitable cabin a much safer proposition. Not that long ago, renting a cabin sight unseen was a chancy undertaking. Too often that "cozy, romantic cottage, nestled among the trees" was, in the eyes of the renter, a rundown shack across the clearing from the owner's house. Now you can view photos online and see what you are renting before you get there.
People who travel with pets would do well to own a copy of Eileen Barish's book, "Vacationing with Your Pet", which lists over 25,000 places to stay in the U.S. and Canada. It is available in most bookstores and online.
Here are some motels in Georgia that accept pets as well as some web sites that we found helpful in shopping for cabins.
