You Should Visit Noah's Ark

Located only about 20 miles outside the perimeter in southern Henry County, Noah’s Ark is a great place to spend an afternoon. If there is another place like it, it is probably not located this close to a major city. We just had an article about Noah’s Ark in a recent issue, so we won’t repeat that. You can read it here. A sanctuary and home for hundreds of animals of all kinds, from the exotic kind found in foreign lands to those found closer to home, Noah’s Ark gives them a place to live when no one else will.

Jama Hedgecoth and her family rescue everything and everyone. In addition to the animal sanctuary, Noah’s Ark provides a foster home for up to 24 children who live on the premises and get the love, attention and care that they were not receiving before. Soon they will open a dog and cat shelter and adoption center to help with the homeless pet problem in the area.

Noah’s Ark welcomes visitors to the facility. There is no charge to visit, but donations are always welcome. The grounds are very nice, with paths leading guests around the property from one area to another. Many of the animals are behind fencing, which is usually best with lions and tigers, while others wander around among the visitors. If you pack a lunch, there are picnic tables available. It makes for a nice afternoon that children will love. The hours are short. Noah’s Ark is only open to visitors from noon until 3:pm, Tuesday through Saturday, so Saturday is the most popular day.

Noah’s Ark is a unique place and we are fortunate to have it nearby. You can visit their website—www.noahs-ark.org—for more information and directions, and a map you can print.
